The elevation, climate and ecology of the Walume Highlands provide a favourable natural foundation for coffee quality.
Greenland Coffee Limited is rooted in the Walume Highlands of Papua New Guinea. We maintain long-term partnerships with surrounding growers and suppliers, purchasing parchment by area and by lot, so quality and traceability are managed from the moment raw material arrives.
By concentrating procurement within defined sub-areas of a single highland basin, lots can be grouped and graded by terroir — making it easier to match buyers with the specific cup characteristics they prefer.
| Growing Condition | Advantages for Coffee Quality |
|---|---|
| High-elevation environment | Favours slower maturation of coffee cherries |
| Large diurnal temperature range | Supports the development of richer sugars and flavours |
| Highland climate | Favours the formation of a denser, tighter bean structure |
| Lot-based sourcing by area | Facilitates quality management and traceability from intake to shipment |
| Volcanic highland soils | Provides natural drainage and mineral nutrients that support healthy cherry development |
| Shade-grown cultivation | Slows ripening and helps preserve soil moisture and ecological balance |
A new processing line commissioned in 2026, spanning nine core stages from parchment to packaged green coffee.
Greenland Coffee Limited's processing plant is located in the Walume growing region of Papua New Guinea. A brand-new processing line was commissioned in 2026, covering the complete chain from parchment intake to finished green-bean packaging and palletising.
The core line includes a tower dryer, destoner, huller, polisher, vibrating screen, gravity separator, optical colour sorter, precision grader and an automated packaging & palletising system—nine stages in total. Standardised operating parameters are set at each stage to ensure consistent quality from lot to lot.
Finished goods are packed to a standard of 60 kg GrainPro inner liner + jute outer bag, meeting the moisture-protection and shelf-life requirements of long sea voyages and extended storage.
Precision moisture control brings parchment uniformly down to a safe storage level.
Key StageEfficiently separates stones, metal, and other heavy impurities, protecting downstream equipment.
Key StageRemoves the parchment layer to release the green bean, with a low-damage hulling process.
Key StageRemoves residual silver skin from the bean surface, improving visual cleanliness and clean-cup quality.
Vibratory sizing pre-grades the beans, creating the best conditions for gravity and colour sorting downstream.
Density-based separation removes empty, insect-damaged, or underdeveloped beans, improving lot uniformity.
Optical detection removes discolored and defective beans, ensuring clean-cup quality standards are met.
Precision screen-size grading delivers multiple grades, including specialty selections subject to lot specifications.
Integrated automated weighing, sealing, stitching, and palletising. Standard 60 kg GrainPro/jute packs, palletised and ready for shipment by lot.
